Lone pine

Whilst in Istanbul i took a trip to Gallipoli to see the ANZAC beaches, it was a very moving experience especially for the Australians who were in my group.
Our guide was an retired Turkish submarine commander and boy did he show us some stuff. There are still trenches to be seen although they have been repaired over time.
The picture on the left is the battle sight known as 'lone pine' and some 200,000 people died fighting for a piece of land the size of approximately two football pitches!
I will never ever forget this place, it has an eerie quality and is so peaceful and quite it literally leaves you speechless.
